Journey of Discovery - Card of the Week - Edea [27-075L]

Card art for 075L Edea

Hello everyone! This is Rio from the Hobby Japan FFTCG development team. This week marks the final installment of the current “Card of the Week” series, where we’ve been featuring new cards from the upcoming booster pack “Journey of Discovery,” scheduled for release on November 14th. I hope you enjoy this final showcase!

This week, I’d like to introduce Edea [27-075L] from FINAL FANTASY VIII. The card features a brand-new illustration by Gen Kobayashi, capturing Edea’s mysterious aura and stunning beauty. A full-art version is also available, so we hope you’ll add it to your collection and enjoy her presence!

Edea [27-075L] is a 5CP Lighting element Forward with 7000 power and two Auto Abilities. Let’s go through them one by one.

First: Search for 1 card of cost 2 or less and play it onto the field.

“When Edea enters the field, you may search for 1 Category VIII Character of cost 2 or less and play it onto the field.” This ability allows us to search for a card of cost 2 or less and play it onto the field., since it specifies a Character, you can summon a Forward, Backup, or Monster, making it quite versatile. I'll share my recommended cards that synergize well later – keep reading!

Second: If you control 4 or more Category VIII Characters, draw 1 card!
“At the end of each of your turns, if you control 4 or more Category VIII Characters, draw 1 card.”

This is a very welcome effect! Plus, it’s not limited to Forwards—it works for any Character, making it easier to use. It also seems to synergize well with the first effect, and thanks to the draw, a powerful card could end up in your hand.

Cards with great synergy:
Next, I’ll introduce some cards that pair well with Edea [27-075L]. Her greatest strength is her ability to search for and play a Character that costs 2 or less onto the field.

She can be very useful in a Category VIII-themed deck, where cards like Raijin [6-101R] and Cid Kramer [18-076C] are easily accessible and great for stabilizing the field.

If you want to bring out a Forward, you can search for and play Ultimecia [13-126C] onto the field to force your opponent to discard a card. This is a versatile card that can serve different roles depending on the situation.

Not to mention that in a Category VIII themed deck, you’re much more likely to get consistent value from her second auto-ability.

Edea [27-075L] is a card that’s sure to play a key supporting role in Category VIII decks going forward! I personally run a Category VIII deck as well, so I’m really looking forward to using her.

Of course, there are plenty of other cards that synergize well beyond the ones I’ve introduced here, and many of them are included in “Journey of Discovery!” Be sure to try combining them with different cards for a fun experience.

What did you think of this week’s Edea [27-075L]? I hope you were able to get a sense of what makes her so appealing and interesting.

As I mentioned earlier, this is the final “Card of the Week” for “Journey of Discovery.” The next one will be in about four months, so I hope you’ll come back to hear more from me then. I look forward to seeing you next time for “Dreamlike Oceans!”
