Hello everyone! I’m Rio, and I work on FFTCG here at Hobby Japan.
Welcome to week two of "Card of the Week," where we showcase new cards from the upcoming booster pack, Blissful Eternity, scheduled for release on August 7th. It’s my turn to take the reins this week, so thank you for joining me!
The card I’m introducing today is [29-052H] Bartz from FINAL FANTASY V. I'm also going to spoil a couple more cards towards the end of this article... please don't tell Kageyama-san ;)
This card features a brand-new, exclusive illustration by Rika Okazaki!

The Chocobo peeking out from behind him is absolutely adorable, isn't it?
Just one look at the artwork tells you right away that this card fits perfectly into a Chocobo deck—a very welcoming detail when you're brainstorming deck builds!
The Full art version has a stunning, shiny finish, so I highly recommend getting your hands on the actual card to see it for yourself!
Card Abilities
Now, let's take a closer look at the card text.
[29-052H] Bartz is a 5 CP, 7000 power Wind Forward with two auto-abilities and one action ability.
First, his first auto-ability reads:
“When Bartz enters the field, choose up to 2 Job Chocobo or Card Name Chocobo Character cards in your Break Zone. Add them to your hand.”
Even if you spend 1 Backup and 2 cards from your hand to pay his 5 CP cost, recovering 2 cards from your Break Zone means you've essentially cast him for just 1 CP!
This is a highly reliable ability that is sure to shine in a Chocobo-centric deck.
Moving on to his exciting second auto-ability:
“Whenever a Forward you control attacks, choose 1 Forward opponent controls by your opponent. Deal it 4000 damage.”
While Chocobo decks make it easy to flood the field with Forwards, they often suffer from lower overall power.
In those situations, using this ability to chip away at a Forward opponent controls will make breaking through their board a whole lot easier.
Since it triggers "whenever a Forward attacks," it also works during a Party attack. Don't forget that it triggers for each Forward participating in the Party! Please make sure to take full advantage of this.
Lastly, let’s look at his action ability:
“Dull 1 active Job Chocobo or Card Name Chocobo: Until the end of the turn, Bartz gains Haste and Bartz's power becomes 9000.”
By Dulling a Chocobo that can't attack yet (like one that just entered the field) as a cost, you can utilize your board resources efficiently without any waste.
Overall, this card's text is fully designed to show its true strength in a deck built around Chocobos!
Chocobos have such cute designs, so it’s also perfectly fine to play purely for fun without worrying too much about winning, just enjoying the sight of various Chocobos gathered on your field!
Synergistic Cards
Now that we've gone over the card text, let me introduce a few cards that pair wonderfully with [29-052H] Bartz
[12-053C] Boko
Not only does this card boost Bartz's power, but it’s also incredibly easy to use when you want to grant Haste and go on the offensive.
What's more, since Boko's Job is Chocobo, he can be recovered from the Break Zone by Bartz’s effect, which is a huge plus!
[26-052H] Sonon
By pairing Sonon with [26-126R] Yuffie, you can instantly set up two Forwards with Haste.
If you're building a deck aimed at lining up multiple Forwards to launch consecutive attacks, this is a perfect match!
[5-123H] Aria (III)
Highly recommended if you want to take advantage of Bartz's Job Warrior of Light.
Including [5-123H] Aria (III) allows you to benefit from Warrior of Light support, bringing more stability to your deck.
And as I mentioned earlier, today, we have a special treat!
I’d also like to suggest some synergistic cards from the brand-new set, Blissful Eternity.
First up is [29-050C] Chocobo

Its effect lets you reveal the top 3 cards of your deck when it attacks and add 1 Chocobo to your hand. This is perfect for keeping your hand filled and stabilizing your board!
It looks like it will become an essential piece for Chocobo decks.
By the way, this card is a prime target to recover using Bartz’s effect.
Leveraging combinations like this will really let Bartz thrive.
Second is [29-051C] Stray Chocobo. (Yes, another Chocobo!)

This is a very convenient card that activates itself once when it becomes Dulled.
It’s highly recommended as the Forward to Dull for Bartz's ability or [29-050C] Chocobo
Of course, there are plenty of other great cards that work well beyond the ones mentioned here, so please try out various combinations and create your very own unique deck!
We’ve covered the artwork, text, and synergistic cards today, but what are your thoughts on [29-052H] Bartz.
Rather than being an overwhelming finisher that ends the game on his own, he feels like a card that truly shines by drawing on the strength of Chocobos and his fellow companions.
Next week, for week three, we’ll be introducing that character with the red eyes!
Please look forward to seeing what kind of card will make an appearance!
