Hello, everyone. “Card of the Week” is a series where we introduce new cards from “Gunslinger in the Abyss,” the upcoming booster pack releasing on August 8th. This week, we’ll introduce characters who appear in FINAL FANTASY V —Faris [26-014L] and Lenna [26-120L]. Faris [26-014L] is illustrated by Rina Yoshiura, while Lenna [26-120L] is illustrated by Rika Okazaki. Both artists are joining FFTCG for the very first time, and they’ve created some truly wonderful illustrations. And of course, full-art versions are also available for you to relish. Let's start with Faris [26-014L].

The graceful yet powerful composition, the fearless smile, and Syldra behind her —the artwork of Faris [26-014L] truly captures the essence of Faris herself. You can immerse yourself even further into this card’s atmosphere with the full-art version, so please be sure to check that out, too.

Faris [26-014L] also boasts compelling abilities within the FFTCG metagame. She’s a Fire element Forward with a cost of 5CP, 9000 power, and Job Pirate and Warrior of Light. While her power may appear average from a simple cost perspective, she allows you to search for 1 Card Name Lenna and add it to your hand when she enters the field, allowing you to think of her as effectively having 3CP and 9000 power. When you view her that way, you’ll likely find her to be quite cost effective—especially for a Forward with 9000 power. The fact that she comes with an EX Burst is also a plus.

Faris also has an Auto-ability that triggers at the beginning of the Attack Phase during each of your turns. It allows you to play 1 Fire or Water Forward of cost equal to or less than the number of Backups you control from your hand onto the field. This means you can play a Forward with a cost of up to 5CP, so deploying Forwards with Haste or Auto-abilities that trigger when they enter the field would certainly help turn the tide in your favor. It’s quite a powerful ability, isn’t it?

Next, let's take a look at Lenna [26-120L]. As mentioned earlier, this card was illustrated by Rika Okazaki. It's a card that captures Lenna's charm in a different way compared to Faris [26-014L].

Lenna [26-120L] is a Water element Forward with a cost of 4CP, 8000 power, and Job Princess and Warrior of Light. She has one Auto-ability that triggers when she enters the field. Though it’s a single Auto-ability, it’s a choice-based ability that offers 2 options where you can select both if you control a Card Name Faris, to boot. The two actions you can select from are:

  • Your opponent selects 1 Forward they control. Put it into the Break Zone.
  • Search for 1 Job Warrior of Light and add it to your hand.

Either action would likely yield effective results, and using both could provide an even more powerful effect.

Now, let's circle back to Faris [26-014L] and try utilizing her in combination with Lenna [26-120L].

When Faris [26-014L] enters the field, activate her Auto-ability to search for Lenna [26-120L]. Proceed to the Attack Phase, and at the beginning of yours, activate Faris's second Ability to play Lenna [26-120L] you searched for onto the field. Because you control Faris [26-014L], you can select both of Lenna [26-120L]’s actions. Now, look! Amazingly, at the start of your Attack Phase, your opponent has lost one Forward, and you can add 1 new Job Warrior of Light to your hand! Of course, this line of action is just one obvious example. Each card can also synergize well with other cards, complementing existing Warrior of Light decks, while also opening new possibilities. We encourage you to tap into the potential that these two cards hold. That's all for today. Next week, we'll introduce a character adopted in countless decks in FFTCG, with its numerous iterations. Will the next card become another tournament staple? Tune in next week to find out!
