When you think of Yuffie, you probably think of a Wind element ninja. This new Yuffie is also a Wind-element Ninja, but what makes her stand out is how strongly her abilities revolve around Crystals. Yuffie [28-054L] has four abilities in total. Three of them are action abilities that require Crystals as their cost, and the remaining one is an auto ability that generates Crystals. In the original game, Yuffie was known for collecting Materia. In FFTCG, it looks like she will instead be collecting Crystals to fuel her abilities.
Let us start from the top by looking at her auto ability, which is the one that generates Crystals. When Yuffie [28-054L] enters the field, you may remove two cards from your opponent’s Break Zone from the game. There are quite a lot of cards that reuse cards from the Break Zone or refer to cards in the Break Zone in various ways, and these effects appear in many deck types. You can only remove two cards, but there should be plenty of situations where this ability proves useful. On top of that, this ability also grants you two Crystals. Now that you have Crystals to work with, let us move on to the action abilities.
As mentioned earlier, Yuffie [28-054L] has three action abilities that all require Crystals.
The first ability costs one Crystal and gives Yuffie +1000 power and Haste until the end of the turn. A sudden Haste attack from a 9000-power Forward is a real threat and forces your opponent to react.
The second ability also costs one Crystal and gives Yuffie “Cannot be chosen by your opponent’s abilities” until the end of the turn. This significantly strengthens her defensively. She is still vulnerable to Summons, but being able to access this protection without spending CP is extremely strong.
The third ability requires two Crystals and has shockingly high firepower for a Wind card. It deals 8000 damage to a Forward. The efficiency is exceptional.
The strength of Yuffie [28-054L] lies in the fact that she does not need to spend CP to activate her abilities. This means she can pressure the opponent while keeping your resources intact. She also generates two Crystals on her own, which ensures you can at least use one of her abilities right away.
As for her weaknesses, the biggest one is that she cannot do anything if you do not have Crystals. To use Yuffie [28-054L] effectively, your deck needs ways to generate Crystals consistently. Backup cards that produce Crystals are essential, and cards like Lucio [24-111H] help build your Crystal count even more. If you add a card like Bartz [26-053L] to put excess Crystals to good use, the deck becomes even stronger.
What do you think? This card opens up exciting new possibilities for Crystal-focused decks.
Next time, we will showcase a character on a journey to reunite with their mother. Look forward to it.
