[28-022L] Kadaj is the fifth Kadaj card in FFTCG, and his first with original illustration. "Dreamlike Oceans" features several fantastic original illustrations of FINAL FANTASY VII ADVENT CHILDREN characters, like this Kadaj, so fans should definitely check them out along with [28-022L] Kadaj.
Now, let's take a look at the text for [28-022L] Kadaj. [28-022L] Kadaj is a cost 5, 9000 power Ice element Forward. His job is the same as before, Job Remnant, but this time, this job is the key point about [28-022L] Kadaj.
Kadaj has two auto-abilities and one action ability that uses crystals as its cost. The first auto-ability is the familiar one that activates when he enters the field, and its effect is "When Kadaj enters the field, choose 1 Job Remnant in your Break Zone. Remove it from the game. Gain two crystals." Removing a Job Remnant card from the game to gain two crystals may seem a bit cumbersome. However, when you look at the next auto-ability, you'll understand that it's actually necessary.
The second auto-ability states, "At the end of each of your turns, if you have 2 or more Job Remnant you own removed from the game, your opponent discards 2 cards." This ability activates every turn as long as [28-022L] Kadaj is on the field, plucking cards from your opponent’s hand. However, the conditions are a bit strict, as two or more Job Remnant cards must be removed. Therefore, you can see how removing a Job Remnant card with [28-022L] Kadaj's first auto-ability is a great help to this powerful auto-ability. Please note that because this ability activates at the end of the turn, it cannot be countered by summons or abilities.
By the way, the crystals obtained from the first auto-ability can be used with [28-022L] Kadaj's action ability. By paying one crystal as its cost, the effect "Choose 1 dull Forward opponent controls. Return it to its owner's hand." This ability makes it extremely easy to return cards to opponent hand, and is an especially great advantage against high-cost Forwards. While these effects often have the drawback of being recast, meaning the auto-ability used when the card entered the field can be reused, [28-022L] Kadaj's second auto-ability reduces the likelihood of this happening.
And that concludes our "Card of the Week" for "Dreamlike Oceans" Look forward to the Pre-Release Party and the release on March 27th!
