FFTCG 2020 - Q&A Blog 2

2020 04/lann desktop

Hello again! Thank you for joining us again for our Q&A Blog Series with FFTCG Producer Tarou Kageyama. I’m sharing with him some of the questions you, the community, had wanted to ask at Fan Fair 2020, but picking questions to keep a theme going each week. This week it’s questions related to things that players are wondering about the future of the game!

RB: At Fan Fair 2019, it was stated that there is interest in bringing back combination cards. Is this still being looked at now that we know multi-element cards are coming?

TK: As multi-element cards are similar to but essentially different from combination cards, just because multi-element cards are released, it doesn’t mean combination cards will follow. There is of course a possibility, but the possibility may be decreasing compared to before. As it may get a bit too confusing if we include too many factors in the game, we plan to be cautious and take it one step at a time.

RB: You also spoke last year about some of the insane abilities in Chapter Series. If you could bring back a really crazy card from Chapters series, which card would it be and why?

TK: To be frank, I would like to forget about the cards that were so powerful that they destroyed the playing field balance, but if I were to choose one, it would probably be Good King Moggle Mog XII. There was a time when Moogles were creating a rampage. If you played this card on your first turn, you would have been able to play an additional 7 CP worth of Moogle cards using its ability. As such, you would have been able to play three Moogle cards with 2 CP each as well as one Moogle card with 1 CP, allowing you to have four Backups and one Forward with 10,000 power on your first turn.

RB: Will we have more card mechanics in the future that interact with the damage zone outside of EX Burst, Noctis, or the Damage keyword?

TK: Outside of those mentioned, we don’t plan on adding cards that interact with the damage zone, necessarily. Though we do anticipate more variations for the EX Burst cards and cards with the Damage keyword in the future.

RB: How far in advance do you make sets? What set are you currently working on now?

TK: Roughly speaking, the list of cards is completed about a year in advance; then the beta versions of the cards, which are still under development at this point, are completed 8 months in advance; then finally, the cards are finalized half a year in advance. Currently, we are working on Opus 14.

RB: Players have asked specifically about whether certain characters will be included: Astos? Matoya? Character from the new FF Tactics game? Other Square Enix titles outside of Final Fantasy?

TK: As a general rule, we plan to include characters from all games that have the FINAL FANTASY name in them. I believe you are referring to “FFBE War of the Visions” when you mentioned “new FF Tactics game” – this is already a part of our plan for the future. That said, we are extremely sorry to say that you probably shouldn’t get your hopes up for characters from titles outside of the FINAL FANTASY franchise.

RB: This one is obviously a bit difficult to really confirm anything right now, with the current situation, but do you plan to create more big competitive events for the community outside Nationals/Worlds? Worlds is a nice goal, however it’s not obtainable for most people.

TK: I think it would be interesting to hold a full-open tournament that anyone from any region can join without going through any qualifiers. Though there are various obstacles, such as the location and scale of the tournament, I would love to give it a go.

RB: Thank you again for your time, Kageyama-san! I hope this is something everyone is enjoying to read about. Please let me know on facebook.com/FinalFantasyTCG, and if you have any questions more questions, we may reach out to collect some new ones soon, so please keep an eye on the page! Until next week!
