Hello everyone! This is Tarou Kageyama, producer of FFTCG. We’re wrapping up our extended “Card of the Week” run for “Gunslinger in the Abyss” with this final installment. Thank you for joining us for this series. The last card is Ra-la [26-121L] which is the third boss players encounter in the LV90 Dungeon, “The Dead Ends,” from the FINAL FANTASY XIV: Endwalker expansion. I hope you enjoy the eerie yet beautiful full-art version of the card, illustrated by Tetsu Tsukamoto.

Ra-la [26-121L] is an entity created by a civilization so advanced that they overcame death, but in the process, lost sight of the value of life. The Ra-la would reap the lives of those who can no longer die, to relieve them of the burden of existence. It is a powerful boss that the Warriors of Light have to face in their fight for life. For those who have played the game, I am sure this is one of the most memorable characters among the many other bosses.
So, how does Ra-la [26-121L] stack up in FFTCG? Let’s jump right in and see what it brings to the table. Ra-la [26-121L] is a 4CP Light element Forward with 9000 power. It has a total of three abilities, all closely intertwined. Starting from the top, here’s a closer look.
The first is a Field Ability with a replacement effect that occurs when the controller of Ra-la [26-121L] receives damage: “If you receive damage while Ra-la is active, dull Ra-la. The damage becomes 0 instead.” Simply put, any damage dealt to the player controlling an active Ra-la is reduced to zero.
The second is an Auto Ability that reads: “When active Ra-la becomes dull, choose 1 Forward opponent controls. Break it.” Ra-la [26-121L] can break an opponent’s Forward simply by attacking, and this ability will trigger even if Ra-la [26-121L] is dulled by an opponent’s ability. Now, remember the last part of its first ability: “dull Ra-la.” This means Ra-la not only reduces damage to its controller but also takes lives (breaks Forwards). That’s quite powerful.
The third and last is an Action Ability with a very simple effect: “《2》: Activate Ra-la.” All it takes is 2CP to activate Ra-la—but in the case of Ra-la [26-121L], this simple action is downright terrifying. In short, Ra-la [26-121L] prevents damage to you, breaks a Forward when dulled by any means and, with just one card discarded from your hand, can be reactivated and put on standby again. Attack with Ra-la [26-121L] to break a Forward, then activate it during your opponent’s turn to mitigate damage while preparing to break a Forward. Truly befitting for an entity designed to take lives. Your opponent won’t be able to formulate a coherent game plan without first dealing with Ra-la [26-121L]. Did Ra-la [26-121L] meet your expectations? I hope you’ll give it a try in your deck.
As mentioned at the beginning, this is the final “Card of the Week” for “Gunslinger in the Abyss.” We’ll meet again in about four months for the next booster pack, “Journey of Discovery.” Until then, enjoy your FFTCG journey!
