Memories of Life - Card of the Week - [30-044L] Fickblix & [30-045R] Verena

Hello everyone! This is Rio, working on FFTCG at Hobby Japan.

I'm in charge of this week's Card of the Week, where we introduce cards every week from the new booster pack Memories of Life, scheduled for release on November 13th. Thank you for reading! This week, I’d like to introduce [30-044L] Fickblix from FINAL FANTASY XI!

This card has a warm, soft, and charming feel to it. The lovely illustration is an original artwork drawn by Fumio Minagawa!

Ability Explanation

First, let’s look at the first line of text: “When Fickblix enters the field, reveal the top 5 cards of your deck. Add up to 1 Forward and up to 1 Monster among them to your hand, then put the remaining cards on the bottom of your deck in any order.” Because the scope of cards you can add to your hand is so wide, it really expands your deck-building possibilities!

You could include him in a popular Wind/Water Monster deck to grab cards like [23-096C] Apkallu, [24-105R] Malboro, [13-037C] Ochu, [6-049C] Zu, or [18-089H] Echidna—and for Forwards, how about bringing out [23-104H] Witch of the Fens? This is just one example I came up with!

The next line of text reads: “[1], put Fickblix into the Break Zone: Choose 1 card in the Break Zone. Remove it from the game.” How about placing him in a Sephiroth deck to remove a card named [Sephiroth] in the Break Zone, reducing the cost to cast [9-087L] Sephiroth? Whether my suggested combinations fit well or not, please try them out once you get the cards and let me know how they feel in actual gameplay!

[30-045R] Verena

Another new card from Memories of Life that is a perfect match in terms of artwork, and one you'll definitely want to collect together, is [30-045R] Verena! Similarly, this illustration is also an original piece by Fumio Minagawa.

The backgrounds actually connect, and both Verena and Fickblix are holding the same white clover, creating a wonderfully peaceful and comforting scene! If you ever feel frustrated after a challenging match, take a look at these cards afterward to help heal your spirit!

Since this is the first time the text for [30-045R] Verena is being revealed, allow me a moment to introduce it as well: “EX BURST When Verena enters the field, you may search for 1 Job Goblin or [Card Name Goblin] and add it to your hand.” Since [30-044L] Fickblix also has Job Goblin you can search for him using Verena! Furthermore, because it has EX BURST, if [30-045R] Verena gets revealed in your damage zone, you can use this effect immediately for zero cost! These two cards have wonderful synergy together, so please consider including both of them in your deck!

What did you think of [30-044L] Fickblix and [30-045R] Verena introduced this week? Did these two cards with their beautiful illustrations bring a smile to your face?

Look forward to next week's Card of the Week!
