Hello, this is Rio from the Hobby Japan FFTCG Development Team. I will be taking over for this week’s Card of the Week, where we introduce new cards from the upcoming Booster Pack “Gunslinger in the Abyss” releasing on August 8th. Nice to meet you again!
This week, I will be introducing Lightning [26-098L] which also comes in a stunning Full Art!

Lightning [26-098L] is a 3CP Lightning element Forward with 6000 power.
She has Haste, along with one Field Ability and one Auto Ability. Let me introduce each one.
The first ability is a Field Ability; “If Lightning forming a party deals damage to your opponent, the damage becomes 2 instead.”
Many Lightning element Forwards focus on low CP and speed; by pairing with Lightning, you’ll be able to have high power without slowing down gameplay. Having such a beautiful and dependable ally by our side, I feel we’ll be able to attack relentlessly without flinching.
This Field Ability can be used in combination with the Auto Ability that I will introduce next for even greater results.
The second Ability is an Auto Ability; “When Lightning attacks, you may play 1 Category XIII Forward of cost 6 or less from your hand onto the field dull, forming a party with Lightning and attacking (you can play a Forward of any element). At the end of the turn, return it to its owner’s hand.”
If you are able to use this Ability to place Snow [12-033R] onto the field, the party’s power grows quite large and can also search for TWO(!) copies of card name Serah, each with different costs, and add them to your hand. As a minimum you’ve just used your 3CP Forward to generate 4 additional CP of cards - value! The fact that Snow is behind Lightning in the card illustration seems to allude that he is waiting in your hand once Lightning [26-098L] enters the field. Being able to relive the story of FINAL FANTASY XIII through card play is truly exciting. Seeing the Category XIII characters shine alongside the protagonist Lightning makes my heart race.
Another suggestion would be to use this Ability to place other cards familiar from the XIII deck such as Vanille [19-129S] and Hope [19-137S] onto the field.
Forwards that are placed onto the field with her Auto Ability will return to your hand, so another very appealing point is that if you have a Forward with a strong entry Ability, you’ll be able to utilise this multiple times. So fun and circus-like, as it repeatedly enters and returns!
Furthermore, I hope you can enjoy a speed-oriented card play by combining it with her first Field Ability to deal 2 damage without fail.
What did you think of Lightning [26-098L]? I think her Abilities will quickly find a place in XIII decks. I look forward to you all finding your own way of making this card shine. Next week, following Jill [26-034L] from the first week, we will be introducing another Dominant!
