Dawn of Heroes – Card of the Week Cecil [20-075L] and Cecil [20-109H]

Artwork depicting Cecil as a dark knight

Hello everyone! This is Tarou Kageyama, producer of FFTCG. It's that time of the year again for Card of the Week, where we introduce cards from new booster packs ahead of their release. Starting with this article, we will be introducing cards from Dawn of Heroes, which will be released on July 28. This set marks the 20th booster pack in the Opus series. In honor of this momentous occasion, this Card of the Week set will be even more gorgeous than ever. Let's take a look!

In this first article of the series, we'll be looking at two cards drawn by Yukihiro Kajimoto, Cecil [20-075L] the Dark Knight and Cecil [20-109H] the Paladin. To begin with, please take a look at the illustrations.

Yin and yang, light and dark, they are the same character, but the contrast between the Dark Knight and Paladin is so beautiful that you may be driven to use both cards together. The good news for such people is that these two cards are so compatible with each other that you will want to use them in the same deck, not only without hesitation but actively. Let's first take a look at Cecil [20-075L].

Cecil [20-075L] is a cost 5, 9000 power Forward with a field ability that unleashes an auto ability, an action ability, and a special ability.

The first field ability allows you to cast it by spending one Earth CP and one Water CP instead of the usual 5CP, for a total of 2 CP. 9000 power for 2CP is indeed an unbeatable spec. However, if you cast it this way, it comes with a demerit auto ability that deals 1 point of damage to you when it enters the field. However, it is still more than enough, and there are many cards that actually benefit from taking damage, so we can’t claim it’s a disadvantage altogether.

The next action ability allows players to place Cecil [20-075L] in the Break Zone to search for a Card Name Cecil with Job Paladin and put it on the field. If you use this when a summon or ability is about to Break Cecil [20-075L], you can nullify them and put a new Cecil on the field. Since Cecil [20-109H], who will be introduced later, is also a Job Paladin, you can of course search him as well. Please keep this in mind.

Finally, there is the special ability Tenebrous Blast. It is a handy special ability that can deal 8,000 damage to one Forward with only one Earth CP and one Card Name Cecil. In a deck with many cards of the same name, this kind of easy-to-use special ability can be very useful.

Next, let's introduce Cecil [20-109H]. This card has a cost of 4, 8000 power, and has an auto ability, an action ability, and a special ability.

For the auto ability, when he or a Category IV character enters your field, you gain a crystal. The crystal is then used to pay for the next action ability. By paying one crystal, you can make a Category IV Forward you control gain +1000 power until the end of turn, and depending on your opponent's abilities, will not be chosen. Since Cecil himself is also Category IV, this is a useful ability that can also protect himself. Lastly, his special ability is Luminous Blast, which allows you to discard one Card Name Cecil to reduce a Forward's power by 5000 until the end of the turn.

I’ve introduced two Cecils here, but Cecil [20-075L] can be fielded with a low CP, and since most Job Paladin Cecils are of the Water element, the combination of Earth and Water is likely the best way to build a deck. Of course, Cecil [20-075L] can also access Cecil [16-051L] of the Wind element and Cecil [17-139S] of the Light element, allowing for flexible construction by placing them at the core of the deck. Even if you put more Card Name Cecils in the deck, the challenges they incur will be solved by the simple special ability I introduced earlier.

What do you think? We hope that Cecil [20-075L] and Cecil [20-109H], with their beautiful illustrations and abilities, have captured your interest. Next week, Richelle will introduce us to the twin characters. Please stay tuned and don't forget to follow us on https://www.facebook.com/fftcgeurope.
