Opus XII Card of the Week - Quacho Queen

Hey everyone! RB here with my final Card of the Week for Opus XII! This has been a fun ride, and while I was originally going to close out these previews with last week’s Multi-Element Thancred, I thought I’d like to end it by revealing some brand new artwork from one of my favorite FFTCG veteran artists, Yasuhisa Izumisawa. This week’s card is Quacho Queen [12-096H].

Let’s take a look!

Isn’t this artwork incredible?! The architecture and underwater world in the background in this new version of Quacho Queen is just as gorgeous as the characters in the foreground. Every one of these original art WORLD OF FINAL FANTASY cards that comes out makes me want to jump back into that game.

Quacho Queen [12-096H] is a 4 CP, 8000 power Forward from category WOFF with Job Queen. She has an ability that reads “Quacho Queen is also a Monster in all situations.” This means all the time, in your deck, in your Break Zone, your hand, the field, it doesn’t matter, she is a Monster and a Forward. Lastly, Quacho Queen has an auto ability which reads, “When Quacho Queen enters the field, choose 1 Monster of cost 2 or less in your Break Zone. Add it to your hand. If it is also a Forward, play it onto the field instead.”

Interestingly, while Quacho Queen [12-096H] doesn’t explicitly state “Category WOFF” in her card text, she does directly play with a trio of existing Category WOFF characters: Fritt [7-004C], Bablizz [7-038C], and Zapt [7-093C]. Like herself, they count as both Forwards and Monsters, so her auto ability will actually put them into play rather than just to your hand. This can be invaluable if you’re combining Water with either Fire, Ice, or Lightning and include Ifrit, Shiva, or Ramuh respectively as Summons. I think Water/Fire in particular is a good combo when you include Lann [10-017R] and Reynn [10-020L]. While category WOFF typically is played as a Fire/Earth deck, Quacho Queen [12-096H] allows a more Monster focused WOFF deck to rise up.

Since we’re going to build around Monsters, some Category VI characters will also work well. Gau [4-123H] not only functions effectively the same as Quacho Queen to get your Monsters back into play, but Gau also gets stronger with every Monster on the field. Relm [11-124H] and/or Relm [4-144H] are also great for getting your Monsters out. Relm [4-144H] can even find Quacho Queen when using her auto ability!

While Monster decks tend to be a niche playstyle, I think Quacho Queen [12-096H] gives it some new variety by supporting the WOFF monsters. What do you think? Will this Queen see her reign in your next Monster deck? Maybe we could even see her in a deck that runs more than two elements!

While this was my last article for Opus XII, there are still two more to go. Next week, Tim will show off a powerful Multi-Element card. Trust me, you don’t want to miss it.

Until next time!
