Hello everyone! This is Tarou Kageyama, producer of FFTCG and I'm delighted to be back starting another series of Card of The Week. The next main Booster Pack set “Tears of the Planet” releases March 28th and starting with Golbez [25-118H] and Golbez’s Four Archfiends, first introduced during the official “FFTCG Talk Show #27” livestream, more and more information about new cards is starting to come out! There’s no better place to talk about them than here on the Card of the Week and I really can’t wait to share more new cards with you all throughout this series of articles!
Let’s jump right in! The first Card of the Week for “Tears of the Planet” is Rude [25-084R] and Reno [25-085L], illustrated by Rubi Asami!

The illustrations for Rude and Reno are designed as a pair, where their partner’s silhouette in the background brings out their incredible appeal. The illustrations by Rubi Asami come in normal, premium, or full art versions, each with its own unique finish. The full art version of the illustration is designed with the Shinra logo in the background. I hope you can compare the physical cards to see the differences!
If the incredible illustrations aren't quite enough to persuade you, let’s look to the card abilities for more reasons to use them in the game. First with Reno [25-085L], he is a 2CP, 5000 power Lightning Forward. He has 2 abilities: Every time an opponent’s active Forward is dulled by your Summon or ability, you can select up to two of the two actions written on this card. The two actions you can choose from are, “Choose 1 Job Member of the Turks. It gains Haste until the end of the turn.” and “Choose 1 Forward. Deal it 4000 damage.” Remember, "Up to two" means you can use either one of the abilities, both abilities, or neither of the abilities!
Unless there are special circumstances, you will probably choose both abilities, but an important point to keep in mind is the trigger condition: you must dull a Forward controlled by your opponent using a Summon or ability. The Lighting element is known for being good at dulling enemies, but even then, some ingenuity will definitely be required. One answer to this is Reno [25-085L]’s Special Ability “EM Flail”. The effect is “Choose 1 Forward and up to 1 other Forward. Dull the former and deal the latter 5000 damage.” Since dulling one Forward will fulfill the condition, the Auto Ability will trigger. Reno can then deal an additional 4000 damage to the damaged Forward for a total of 9000 to deal a knockout blow, and since two of the opponent’s Forwards will be neutralized, it will be easy to strike a powerful attack with a Job Member of the Turks that has Haste… However, Reno [25-085L]’s Special Ability—which costs a card with the same name—isn’t one that can be triggered at any time, so we will need to find a slightly more reliable strategy to utilize it.
This is where Rude [25-084R] could shine. When Rude [25-084R] enters the field, he has an Auto Ability that grabs a Job Member of the Turks from the Break Zone. This would allow you acquire a card with Card Name Reno to trigger Reno [25-085L]'s Special Ability! His other ability to dulls one Forward controlled by your opponent at the beginning of the Attack Phase. This then means that as long as Rude [25-084R] is present and the opponent has an active Forward, Reno’s [25-085L] Auto Ability will trigger every turn! As you can see Rude [25-084R]'s abilities have amazing synergy with Reno [25-085L]. What great partners indeed!
Furthermore, other cards that could be of good use for the two would be Rufus [20-040L] and Cissnei [20-028R], among others. Job Member of the Turks and other supporting cards are focused on the Ice and Lightning elements; these two elements are the best when it comes to anything related to Dulling. Going forward, I think we will see the Turks get utilized more with Rude [25-084R] and Reno [25-085L] at the center.
What do you think about these two cards? We hope you find your own way of making them shine. In the next Card of the Week, I will be talking about a certain heretical witch. See you next time!
