Hello everyone, FFTCG Producer Tarou Kageyama here! This is the 5th Card of the Week from Rebellion’s Call. We’ve been introducing very interesting cards up to this point, and we’ll continue to do so; so I hope you enjoy.
Without further ado, let’s look at this week’s card: Serah [17-013L], an Ice Legend. This is Serah’s 9th appearance, but to our surprise, it is only the 2nd time she’s been a Legend card – Serah [7-035L] being the 1st – which is the first time in 10 sets. I would like to walk you through what Serah’s capabilities are, as she returns for the first time in a while as a Legend.
Serah [17-031L] is 5CP with a power of 8000, and she has an auto ability for when she enters the field as well as when she attacks. The auto ability when entering the field states: “When Serah enters the field, reveal the top 5 cards of your deck. Add 1 Backup among them to your hand. If it is a [Job Moogle], you may play it onto the field instead. Then, return the other cards to the bottom of your deck in any order.” Just looking at the first half, it may seem like a relatively common kind of ability. However, the latter half makes this ability far more powerful. Although you are limited to [Job Moogle], you can play a Backup directly to the field, plus there is no restriction on the cost of said Backup. So, for example, you may play cards such as Hurdy [5-043R] or Moogle (FFCC) [7-082R], which are 4CP. Luck plays a part to an extent, but the advantage you can gain for the CP used is quite high.
The other auto ability kicks in when you choose to attack with Serah [17-031L]. It says, “When Serah attacks, choose 1 Character. Dull it and Freeze it. If you control 4 or more Backups, your opponent discards 1 card from their hand as well.” We occasionally see Ice Forwards who can Dull and Freeze a character upon attacking them, but they often have some sort of condition, like we see with Snow [12-033R] or Gilgamesh (FFBE) [14-023L], and so it’s rare to see a card like Serah [17-031L] who can Dull and Freeze without any prerequisites. That in and of itself already makes the ability very powerful, but on top of that, if you control 4 or more Backups, you can make your opponent discard a card out of their hand.
Serah’s first ability to add a Backup to your hand or play it onto the field works very well with this second ability, which grants a bonus if you control 4 or more Backups, and so, it won’t be too difficult to Dull and Freeze, plus make your opponent discard a card. I would say both abilities are clear-cut and simply powerful, don’t you think?
・Cards that pair well with Serah [17-013L]
Lastly, I would like to suggest a few cards that go well with Serah [17-031L]. Naturally, I’d want to focus on [Job Moogle] Backups which you can play onto the field directly, and so I would probably prioritize cards like Mog (XIII-2) [1-196S] or Moogle Brothers [6-081R], which allow you to gain a card when you play them onto the field. Mog (XIII-2) [1-196S] will let you search for Serah [17-031L] to play later, as well as those who have abilities that pertain to Serah, such as Snow [12-033R] or Noel [10-097R]; or you may search for Lightning [4-115L], which requires a character from [Category (XIII)]. As for Moogle Brothers [6-081R], playing the card onto the field will allow you to search for another moogle, plus you can use its ability to play the card out of your hand, so it’ll make placing Backups easier.
Other options include Class Ninth Moogle [9-033C] and other Type 0 Moogles that generate CP of their respective elements, Moogle (FFCC) [7-082R], which can produce CP of any element, Stiltzkin [13-043C] and Moogle (FFBE) [13-051R], which let you search for a particular card. There are so many cars you may consider including in a deck with Serah [17-031L]. I would love for you to look for your personal Moogle favorites.
Next time, Richelle will talk about a particular character who is amongst 14 different protagonists. Stay tuned!
