Hidden Hope - Card of the Week - Edea [22-075H]

Hello, everyone! This is Tarou Kageyama, producer of FFTCG. We’re already onto our second Card of the Week for “Hidden Hope.” Last week, we introduced cards with the noteworthy new mechanic, Limit Break. This week, we’ll look at a card that doesn’t have Limit Break but will surely be of interest in the new environment – Edea [22-075H] from FINAL FANTASY VIII! This card features a new illustration by KINSHA Creations, and of course, will also be available as a full art card.

Now let’s explore this card’s abilities. Edea [22-075H] is a 5 CP Lightning Forward with 8000 power from Category VIII with Job Witch. She has one auto ability for when she enters the field, and one action ability. The auto ability is a common type, which allows you to search for 1 Category VIII Forward and add it to your hand. There are several Category VIII Forwards among the new cards that will be introduced in Hidden Hope, including Selphie [22-010L] and Quistis [22-022R], respectively revealed during last year’s World Championships livestream and North America Winter Cup, but there are also some powerful cards like Rinoa [6-041L] and Griever [21-027L] from previous sets. In particular, Griever [21-027L] and Edea [22-075H] are quite compatible – when you put Griever [21-027L] into the Break Zone from the field, you may search for Edea [22-075H], who has Job Witch, and play the card directly onto the field. And with Edea [22-075H]’s ability, you may search for a new Griever [21-027L]. When your opponent thinks they’ve defeated Griever [21-027L], Edea [22-075H] is on the field, and the next Griever [21-027L] awaits in your hand. From their perspective, they’ll be in a significantly worse situation, even though they’ve defeated the Forward.

Oh yes, I also need to explain the other ability. As mentioned earlier, the other is an action ability. However, the cost to use the ability is pretty unique where you’ll have to put the top 2 cards of your deck into the Break Zone. Under normal circumstances, you choose 1 Forward and it loses 4000 power until the end of the turn. However, if there are 10 or more cards in your Break Zone, it loses 8000 power until the end of the turn instead. This is a pretty large number and should be enough to take down a mid-level Forward. Cost-wise, you’ll be putting 2 cards into the Break Zone, so the conditions can be met rather easily. It can only be used once per turn, and only during your turn, but it has a powerful enough ability to justify this.

For the upcoming set “Hidden Hope,” there’s much interest in Limit Break, but it also contains many cards that could be pivotal to your deck, such as the one I introduced today, so I plan on revealing more cards like these as well! Next week, I’ll showcase two cards: one Legend card and one card with the same Job featuring a brand-new illustration. I hope you’ll look forward to it!
