Notice of Newly Banned Cards (Effective 28th July 2023)

FFTCG card backs

Thank you for your continuing support of the FINAL FANTASY TRADING CARD GAME. This is FFTCG Producer, Tarou Kageyama.

With the upcoming release of “Dawn of Heroes” on July 28th, two cards are to be newly banned in the Standard format. I apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

The cards in question are listed below, along with the reasoning behind the ban.

There are no newly banned or restricted cards for L3 Constructed, L6 Constructed or Title formats.

In addition, these newly banned cards can be used as before in Limited play and in all play formats other than Standard.

Notice of ban

The below cards are hereby banned from Standard play. This means having one of more copies of these cards in a deck is completely forbidden.

  • Card 12-038H Althea
  • Card 12-097H Syldra

Date of enforcement

Friday 28th July 2023

Reasons behind ban

Card 12-038H Althea

As Althea can be easily reused multiple times, this has become a key card with long-term use in mono wind decks where the number of casts are counted. This card has also contributed to games lasting a long time due to the associated increase in choice of actions for the player. Because Althea is likely to be continually used in future as a central card in powerful decks with a high possibility of being used again and again, this card has been banned.

Card 12-097H Syldra

As the card pool expands, the benefit to using search-type cards increases as the number of possible targets increase. Card 12-097H Syldra is already extremely likely to be used in water decks, but it is anticipated that its continued use would not be defensible in future iterations of the game, and so it has been banned.

I once again sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by this ban.

We hope that you will continue to enjoy the FINAL FANTASY TRADING CARD GAME.
