Hello everyone. This is Tarou Kageyama, producer of FFTCG. We’ve now reached the fourth of five installments of Card of the Week, introducing new cards from the "Hidden Legends" booster pack releasing on November 15th. We have two installments remaining including this article, so we hope you stick with us until the end. This week, we're introducing Tidus [24-048L], featuring an illustration by Yoshitaka Amano!
Tidus has primarily been a Water card in his previous iterations throughout FFTCG, but Tidus [24-048L] is included as a Wind Legend. However, the abilities of the card aren’t entirely focused on the characteristics you’d expect from a Wind card. Rather, every ability hones in on a single keyword ability. Let's go ahead and take a look.
Tidus [24-048L] is a 5CP and 9000 power Wind Forward. He has two Jobs: Guardian and Blitzballer. You could say he’s a rather hefty Forward in terms of size.
There are three abilities in total, and all of them are related to the keyword ability “Warp.” First, Tidus [24-048L] himself has “Warp 5.” The fact that this costs 0 makes it easy to use Warp from the first turn, which is great.
The second is an auto-ability that activates whenever a Warp Counter is removed from any player’s card other than Card Name Tidus. This effect removes a Warp Counter placed on Tidus [24-048L]. The more cards are removed by Warp, the shorter the number of turns it takes for Tidus [24-048L] to enter the field. Because this triggers even with your opponent’s cards, they may hesitate to warp, applying pressure on future developments within the match. Alternatively, they may cut their losses and warp, in which case you can capitalise on the situation.
The third is a field ability that grants Haste to Forwards with Warp you control, and the field ability “This Forward cannot be chosen by your opponent's Summons.” This also applies to Tidus [24-048L] who has Warp himself, so in effect, he’s essentially a powerfully large, 5CP, 9000 power Forward with Haste that cannot be chosen by opponent's Summons. If you can make good use of this in combination with the second ability that accelerates Warp, he can surely function as the main powerhouse and key card within your deck.
Now, to finish up, we'll introduce some cards that may synergize well when building a deck with Tidus [24-048L]. Cid (II) [21-046C] (which can search for a card with Warp) can remove Warp Counters from cards other than Tidus [24-048L] using its own action ability, so you can effectively remove two Warp Counters in total. The same thing can also be done with the auto ability of Vayne [19-036L], so we recommend that. It’s also nice that both are Wind cards like Tidus [24-048L]. Although you may need to lean towards [Category (VI)] cards, Shadow [21-007L] (which can remove its own Warp Counters all at once) is also a card that may synergise well.
Outside of these, Melvien [18-115L] (which can Warp multiple times) and Mist [20-115R] (which has a low Warp cost and provides good payoff) are also likely to serve you well. If you warp Tidus [24-048L] and Mist [20-115R] in the first turn, it will reduce the Warp Counter twice as fast, and after 3 turns, Tidus [24-048L] will enter the field. Then, on the next turn, Mist [20-115R] will enter the field, allowing you to draw a card. Tidus [24-048L] grants Haste, so you might be able to attack depending on the situation on the field.
So, how did you find this week's Tidus [24-048L]? I hope that the “Warp Deck” will start to see tournament play at an event near you! Next up will be the final series installment for “Hidden Legends”. Let's have the King and Dominant, as well as his Eikon, appear as a final review of the new keyword ability “Priming.” See you next week!
