Update on 2020 Events and Products

Opus XII Announcement/opus xii banner desktop

Hello everyone, this is Tim from FFTCG Europe. Many of you were waiting for an official announcement from our side, so we want you to know what we are working on at the moment. As those times are very unusual and none can predict the future surrounding COVID-19, we have been in close communication with our colleagues in North America and Japan in regards to how we can move forward with FFTCG and the Championship structure. While many of you are enjoying our articles on the website and what we are doing right now, the overall desire is to get back to playing FFTCG and know what’s planned the future, so I will go through a couple of topics now.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2020

I am sure you have thought of this already - This year’s World Championship will be postponed. We are aiming for Worlds to take place in Spring 2021 with the same number of players as planned originally. But please note that this is not a guarantee. We want to keep you informed where we would like to see it happen and hopefully COVID-19 will not deny our plans there. As soon as we can announce the timing confidently, whether that’s Spring 2021 or later, we will let everyone know.

The same goes for the European Championship. We hope to host Euros 1.5 - 2 month prior to the World Championship as it’s important for us to emphasize that we don’t want to cancel events outright, and would like to get back the competitive circuit as soon as we’re able to.
Unfortunately, what competitive events will look like is not clear yet. We will be closely monitoring the situation surrounding COVID-19 around the world and come back to you with more information as soon as we can.

FUTURE RELEASES

As you might have seen, we started the “Card of the Week” articles for Opus XII already, and now we are finally able to tell you the new release date, since we announced a delay for Opus XII.
This is our schedule moving forward:

  • Opus XII Pre-Release – October 30th
  • Opus XII Release – November 6th
  • Opus XIII Release – Spring 2021

Regular releases of sets are planned to follow as usual with this new adjusted schedule.

The Pre-Release Kit of Opus XII will contain 9 Booster packs, Opus XII Pre-Release sleeves, and a Full Art Pre-Release Promo card featuring Emet-Selch [12-024H], that was recently shown in my Card of the Week-Article. (In case you missed it, you can find it here: https://fftcg.square-enix-games.com/en/news/opus-xii-card-of-the-week-emet-selch).

As usual, keep an eye on the website for more announcements and details about everything discussed as soon as we’re able to share those, and join our FFTCG-Discord-Server to discuss with other players all around Europe: https://discord.gg/PKvtGcb

We are all in this together, so please stay safe, so we see each other again once FFTCG events resume.

Speak to you soon.
